Top 5 South American Restaurants in London

Looking for South American Restaurants in London? We’ve put together our favourites…

There’s no denying that these summer months inspire us to head outside and drink cold beers by the BBQ and no one does the summer quite like South America with their endless sunshine and dreamy beaches. It’s safe to say a UK summer may not be quite as idyllic so why not try these South American restaurants that are right outside your door? Here are our favourite South American Restaurants in London…

Arepa & Co

First on our list of South American Restaurants in London is Arepa & Co. Arepa is a Venezuelan dish that is extremely popular both in Venezuela and neighbouring Colombia. This delicious dish is made from Harina Pan (a specific type of maize) and filled with whatever toppings your heart desires. Good Venezuelan food in London is hard to come by so when Arepa & Co popped up in Haggerston it gave people the chance to finally sample authentic Venezuelan cuisine. Overlooking the canal this spot is perfect for enjoying some downtime with a beer and arepa of choice. Of course there’s more on the menu than just that, but you can’t come to Arepa & Co and not order arepa. My personal favourite being Arepa reina pepiada an arepa stuffed with avocado, chicken and lashing of mayonnaise. If you’re really hungry then try a Venezuelan classic Pabellón Criollo, shredded beef, white cheese, black beans and plantains. Seriously good food at a decent price. Quite often the South American/Central American food market is dominated by a sea of BBQ food and tacos however I encourage you to eat outside of your comfort zone in a place that will make you feel totally at home.

Señor Ceviche

You can’t talk about South American cuisine without mentioning ceviche. A dish that Peru does better than anywhere else in the world and it’s fair to say that we are obsessed with it for a good reason. Señor Ceviche is located in Kingsley Court and upon arrival you can expect a true Peruvian affair of ceviche, BBQ food galore all washed down with a pisco sour. (The best Peruvian cocktail) The relaxed dining vibe encourages sharing and dishes are reasonably priced. Polished off with a dulce de leche desert (another classic South American dish) there really is not better combination. Expect colour, great ambiance and lovely food.

Floripa

This place is a taste of Brazil in the heart of Shoreditch. Like a lot of Brazilian cuisine expect there to be an abundance of meat grilled on the BBQ – the smoky flavours and fruity cocktails will instantly transport you away to some tropical beach leaving the cares of the modern world behind. Well maybe not, but the food is delicious! There are classic Brazilian dishes such as feijoada which is a black bean stew cooked with pork, beef, bacon and sausage and for those of you who are vegetarian fear not there is a meat free version of this dish substituting the meat for chargrilled, silky tofu. The ambiance is lively, colourful and full of personality- what else could you expect of a Brazilian restaurant?

Casa Malevo

Situated in Connaught Street you can get a true taste of Argentinean cuisine in the form that they are famous for- steak. Casa Malevo knows its steaks inside out and you’re guaranteed the best quality of meat when you dine there. Coupled with amazing wine and empanadas this place is a hidden gem. It has a rustic vibe with its brick walls and wooden furniture, the perfect place for a romantic date. The focus here is on the amazing food and after your first bite you’ll see why it’s such a firm favourite with those craving a really good steak.

Coya London

This place (although the second Peruvian one on the list) is a true show stopper and must on our list of top South American Restaurants in London. The food is an eclectic mix of Peruvian cuisine with an Asian twist, these plates of food look like pieces of art. Expect extravagant décor to match with their extravagant dishes. Everything from Ceviche de Lubina Clasico to Chuletas de Borrego the food here is exquisite. Complete with private rooms and a pisco bar (moderation is advised here, no matter how good they taste!) it’s the ideal place to take some you want to impress. However the menu is not cheap and you will have to book to avoid disappointment, but it’s well worth it for this once in a lifetime experience.
