The Doodle Bar

The Doodle Bar is a warehouse bar with an industrial style and a great atmosphere. On top of serving great beer, it is one of your last places to grab a really good bite to eat before continuing on to the rest of the crawl. Offering burgers, fries, cocktails, local craft beer and ping pong to play it is easy to get stuck at this bar early on in the adventure. The bar also has a largewall dedicated to doodling – hence the name – which is great fun. Grabbing a burger and a beer here is a great preparation for the rest of the crawl.

London Beer Factory – Barrel Project

The Barrel Project serves house barrel-aged & craft beers across an astounding 24 taps. Many of the beers are their own experiments with barrel aging and the location itself contains 2,000 oak barrels which are visibly displayed and add to the beautiful visual experience of the interior. You could skip the crawl entirely and try to taste as many beers as possible here because the selection is vast and has something for everyone. With an in-house kitchen, constantly changing rooster of events, and Maltby St. Market on the doorstep, it’s an unmissable stop on the Bermondsey Beer Mile.

Billy Franks Jerky and Craft Beer & Snack Shack

If your dream bar consists of eating jerky and drinking beer then your fantasy has come true at Billy Franks. This is an interesting bar because it started off as a snack shack where you could buy jerky and beer to take out. Now they have added taps and fleshed out this location into a full fledged bar and addition to the Bermondsey Beer Mile. Its transformation from a bottle shop which offered take out beers, hot sauces, hot snacks and of course Billy Franks jerky and Boozy Bacon Jams to a bar with indoor and outdoor seating makes for a unique experience along the road.

Anspach and Hobday

Some people consider Anspach and Hobday the true start or end, depending on which direction you choose to start from, of the original Bermondsey Beer Mile crawl. They have twelve beers on tap and an impressive interior featuring visible beer tanks and a contrasting mix of wood, tile and industrial style decor. It is usually pretty busy here but service is quick so you can return back to the crawl.

Moor Beer Vaults

This marks the point at which we leave Druid Street behind and venture onwards to Enid Street where the next cluster of bars awaits. Moor Beer, the first stop on this change, is a very interesting little place. Their beers are brewed in Bristol but they also carry barrel aged beers in this location. Moor Beer hosts events and has live music scheduled quite often throughout the month. The place can fill up quite quickly even though they offer a good amount of seating so get here in good time. They also do tours here so when you have a bit more time, be sure to come back and learn about the ins and outs of their brewery process.

Cloudwater

Next up on the Enid Street adventure is a rather popular and well known bar with 4 locations. Cloudwater’s Enid Street bar has 20 draft taps of fresh releases and barrel-aged beers with draft lines all direct-drawn from a 5ºC cold store right next to the bar. All of its lines are insulated and chilled until it reaches the tap making for a beautifully cold pint. The interior here is a bit more contemprary and minimalist than others in the crawl yet still has the same inviting feel. The wide variety of beers here start from lighter ales making it a refreshing pit stop at this point in the Bermondsey Beer Mile.

Mash Paddle Brewery

Mash Paddle Brewery was established in 2022 and as such is one of the newest Brewery-Taprooms on the Bermondsey Beer Mile. There are over 12 different beers available as well as live music and a pizza truck serving food on Saturdays. Be sure to come back for another visit as they teach you to brew your own beer, taking you through the entire process. The experience ends with you leaving your own cretaing in a fermenter for two weeks before you come back for a canning session and walk away with 20L of your own beer.

The Kernel

The Kernel is traditionally considered to be the halfway point of the Bermondset Beer Mile and as its location is dead in the middle it often gets quite busy here with foot traffic from both sides. The exterior and interior is decorated with vibrant plants and the wooden furnishings and fixtures create a cool vibe. They have about 15 beers on tap and also offer a selection of meats and cheeses to have while you sit and drink.

The Outpost – Three Hills Brewing

The walk from The Kernel to The Outpost is the most walking you will do on the pub crawl. A kilometer separates the two however there are multiple clubs and bars along the way to keep you going if you must! This walk just past the halfway mark of the Bermondsey Beer Mile is a nice moment to recover and catch a break from drinking before launching into the second half of the crawl. Once you hit The Outpost they offer tank fresh beer with 20 taps and live music on Thursdays and Fridays. Reaching The Outpost is well worth the walk as the inside and outside areas have a great atmosphere and the beer is fantastic.

This bar is the physical embodiment of taste testing as they don’t brew their own beer they just cycle through and select delicious ones from their roster of breweries. On top of their tremendous selection of beer they also have shuffleboard, giant jenga and a great amount of outdoor seating. This is a great stop to play some games and chill outside when the weather permits.

Fourpure

It is hard to miss Fourpure when walking by due to the huge tanks right outside the building, aswell as a large amount of outdoor seating. They have 20 taps of beer, two stories of seating, and rotating food vendors outside the bar. This is easily the biggest brewery you will run into on the crawl and makes for a fitting and spectacular end to the journey. It has everything you need to recover from or continue the crawl and as it’s a popular spot with plenty of spots to sit, meeting up here with your friends who couldn’t join you for the crawl is perfect.

Tips for getting the most out of the Bermondsey Beer Mile

Here are just a few basic tips for making it through the crawl and staying on your feet.

  1. Eat beforehand! We mentioned this at the top but grabbing a pint at every place on this list will be lethal if you don’t have something in your stomach before you drink!
  2. Throw in a glass of water every couple of bars to keep hydrated
  3. Just get one pint at each place – there are 12 places listed here and even more that you can add to it so trust us, one pint at each bar is enough
  4. Sit outside when you can to enjoy the al fresco vibes
  5. Have at least 2-3 friends you crawl with as it just makes it a much more fun experience

That was everything you need to know to get started on one of the most legendary pub crawls England has to offer. Let us know below how you enjoyed it or if there are any that you think need adding!
