The options for a staycation destination are vast. Ultimately, it depends on what you’re after, and if the weather is going to hold up at the time of year you’re planning on going, but get those minute details right, and you can have a holiday to remember. Whether you’re keen to experience the great outdoors and hike some mountainous terrain or you’re happy sitting on a beach, reading a book or playing craps online for English players and staring out to sea for hours on end, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have you covered. In fact, the sheer amount of possible destinations can surprise people.

With more and more people discovering the benefits of a holiday at home, here’s a look at some of the best staycation destinations the UK has to offer in 2020.

Staycation in the UK

Jurassic Coast, England

Stretching from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, the Jurassic Coast is a hugely popular destination for people at the moment. Not only does it provide the quaint seaside towns people fall for, but it offers excellent beaches, an array of local food well worth trying, alongside the tranquillity and natural beauty so many people crave.

Isle of Skye, Scotland

If stunning scenery appeals, then the Isle of Skye is probably well worth checking out. In fact, it’s absolutely breathtaking and is a must if you’re an outdoor explorer keen to take in some of Scotland’s greatest landscapes. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to see the Northern Lights on your trip, too.

York, England

A stunningly beautiful town steeped in history, York is a northern delight well worth checking out. With its medieval walls, quirky bars and restaurants, excellent shops and its all-round friendly vibe, York has plenty to offer. If you’re keen to walk off your lunch, the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors are nearby too.

Ballycastle, Northern Ireland

A hidden gem, Ballycastle is located on the north-easternmost coastal tip of Ireland and is a favourite staycation destination for thousands of people. Looking like something from a film set thanks to its stunning scenery, Ballycastle is home to an array of excellent pubs and restaurants, as well as the must-visit Kibane Castle.

Pembrokeshire, Wales

If you’re eager to experience the Great British outdoors and take in some Welsh wildlife, then Pembrokeshire is an excellent option. A particularly popular choice for walkers thanks to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, there’s 186 miles of trails and over 50 beaches to take in along the way. Alongside this, Tenby Castle Beach and St. Davids Cathedral are worth seeing too.

Snowdonia, Wales

Ready to immerse yourself in nature and experience a place many have dubbed as the New Zealand of Europe? Then look no further than Snowdonia, a truly stunning location offering a range of natural delights, from the highest mountain in England and Wales to the largest natural lake in Wales. All of this, and more, can be enjoyed on a beautiful train ride, too.

Lake District, England

A hugely popular and well-known UK location, the Lake District’s rolling hills and amazing lakes appeal massively to the campers among us, as well as the explorers of the outdoors. A breathtakingly beautiful option, the Lake District is a truly idyllic spot well worth a visit, especially if you’re a lover of nature.
