How to plan a UK staycation this Summer

Date:

Just because travelling abroad is a bit up in the air at the moment, doesn’t mean you should forego a summer holiday. Here are our top ideas for how to plan a UK staycation this summer…

Have your 2020 summer holiday plans been put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic? Millions of people up and down the UK have been forced to change their arrangements due to foreign travel restrictions or a lack of available insurance policies.

And although the UK has opened air bridges with some overseas destinations, meaning holiday makers no longer have to self-isolate once they return to these shores, the picture is changing all the time, discouraging lots of people from making bookings where they may lose out financially.

Instead, millions are looking closer to home for their break this summer, in the form of a staycation. The UK has plenty of beautiful spots for you to enjoy and with Grand Central Rail it’s easy to get around the country even if you don’t have a car – or if you just want to avoid the traffic jams!

So, what are some ideas for the perfect summer staycation?

Camping

It might not be for everyone, but camping holidays can be hugely enjoyable – especially when you get good weather! Allow the easy pace of campsite life to wash over you as you sit back in your comfy chair – perhaps with a glass or two of something cold as the sun starts to set. The kids will love the adventure, too, so this really is fun for all the family. You could even take it one step further and get yourself a Volkswagen Camper, throwing all of the essentials in the back, and heading out to the sticks can give you all the perspective you need. Those who do it certainly enjoy it and look back on it fondly – it provides wonderful memories.

Walking

Davos Travel guide

For those who like to stay active, the UK has hundreds of fantastic walking destinations that will make you appreciate the vast natural beauty we have right here on our doorstep. Why not make a trip to the Lake District and take on the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike, or head to the Yorkshire Dales and stroll among the spectacular scenery? Not only is walking good for your physical wellbeing but losing yourself in nature can do wonders for your mental health, too.

Seaside

Thurlestone Hotel Devon

To guarantee a fun day out that the little ones will love, why not head to the coast? The UK might not be blessed with quite as many idyllic bays as some paradise spots around the world, but there are still plenty of beautiful destinations for you to enjoy. The Norfolk Broads offer vast plains of perfectly flat sands as well as a never-ending network of creeks to paddle in, while the beaches of Cornwall and Devon deliver spectacular sea views that are unrivalled elsewhere in the country.

House swap

Ty Mawr Cottage Review

For something slightly different, why not consider a house swap with family or close friends? In these difficult times, we could all do with a change of scene and taking up temporary residence in somebody else’s home can allow us to enjoy exactly that. You’ll get to explore new areas that you might not be familiar with, visit some different restaurants, shops and bars, and relax safe in the knowledge that your home is being looked after, too!
