Lockdown has been tough on us all. What with not being able to see family, being stuck inside and all of our regular plans changing, it can leave you feeling anxious and worried about the future. While a little anxiousness is normal in such strange times, if you find that it is getting overwhelming, there are things you can try to help. Here are five self-care tips for during lockdown to ease anxiety…
1) Practice mindfulness
There are many videos online that can show you how to practice mindfulness, as well as written tutorials and apps. Mindfulness meditation involves sitting in silence and paying attention to your surroundings, your thoughts and the sensations of breathing. When your mind starts to wander you need to practice bringing it back. By becoming more aware of the present you can experience things you have been taking for granted, and put things you have been worrying about into perspective.
2) Look into natural remedies
The market is filled with many natural remedies to help with anxiety and mindfulness. From Kalms rescue remedy to lavender and camomile. You could drink herbal teas, or look into CBD products, and even cannabis seeds as they have many health benefits. They are high in natural protein and can help with lowering your blood pressure which can reduce anxiety. Do your research and find the best products for you.
3) Don’t forget to take some me-time
Life is busy – even in lockdown – and it is more important than ever to take some time for yourself. Run a bath, light some candles, and take some time away from any work or home stress that might be bothering you. Even if you can steal fifteen minutes with a cup of coffee and a book, it is beneficial for your mental health.
4) Don’t be afraid to talk to someone
One of the most important steps if your mental health is suffering is to speak to someone. This might be a friend, a family member, or a counsellor, but sharing will help to release the burden you are feeling. There are many services or numbers you can call online if you find you need to talk to a professional who can help you learn new coping mechanisms.
5) Eat healthily
While a glass of wine or two is fine, you want to avoid drinking too much as this is a depressant and can make you feel worse. The same with eating unhealthy food. Try and eat as well as possible so you feel much more positive and motivated, it is a great way to boost your mood. Try and limit sweet treats to the weekend or just a couple of days a week.
