Face masks are here to stay. We can safely assume that. At least for the next few months (or until there’s a vaccine), we will be required to wear a mask in public and in most spaces. They keep us and others safe; makes perfect sense. I have noticed that my skin feels a little drier under the mask; a thing that will further worsen as we head into autumn and winter. How do I take better care of my skin if I’m to wear a mask for a long period? How can I combat dullness and irritation going forward? The answer? Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 range. But how did I come to this conclusion?
With a need to better my skin in these mask-wearing times, I decided to up my daily routine and introduce extra steps to protect my skin from signs of ageing as well as prolonged mask-wearing. My routine has followed the holy trinity of skincare – cleanse, tone, moisturise – since the age of fourteen. It has served me well. I’m often complimented on my skin and it makes me happy that I’ve been removing my make up before bed for close to two decades, religiously. I can also count in one hand the number of times I’ve fallen asleep without taking my make up off; that’s how much I don’t do it. Such is my commitment to youthful skin.
As I’ve now entered quite a different decade altogether I yearn for a little more skin-support. My new holy trinity has become serum, moisturiser, SPF. I found all of it by accident when I was gifted Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 range of night serum, night moisturiser and day moisturiser with SPF30 (essential when using retinol products). It’s the trio I did not know I needed in my life. They couldn’t have come at a better time. I feel compelled to say that you’re never too young to introduce serum and SPF to your routine. Prevention is always better than cure. It’s also a great deal cheaper.
Retinol is the key ingredient in the range. It was not a name I’d been familiar with before. I did a little digging to see what made it special. Retinol encourages skin cell renewal and boosts the amount of collagen your body makes and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It also improves skin tone and hyperpigmentation. This magic ingredient, however, must be used with caution. Too much of it and your skin can look dry, flaky and drab. Too little and you will see no benefit.
Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 uses a percentage of retinol that consistently showed up in my research as being effective without having an adverse effect. Olay’s mix of retinyl propionate (0.3%) and retinol (undisclosed amount but taking the total not far above 0.3%) makes the Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 range safe for everyday use and, more importantly, safe to be used together.
As I had no experience of retinol before, I introduced it to my routine gradually. Starting with the night serum just once a week leading up to three times this week. Serum has smaller molecules than a moisturiser allowing a much deeper absorption into our skin. It’s ideal for use before bed when the body is resting.
The Olay Retinol 24 night moisturiser, which incidentally is fragrance-free too, is an amazing product that hydrates while I sleep. So, whilst the serum works on deeper layers of the skin the moisturiser works on a topical level. I wake up with soft skin and no dryness or irritation.
The favourite of the trio for me, is the Olay Regenerist Whip cream with SPF 30 for daytime use. As the name suggests, it’s whipped and spreads evenly on my skin like silk. It also absorbs quickly and feels light all day. Even at the end of the day when I’ve cleaned my make up off my skin my face feels supple; something I hadn’t experienced before.
I’m just weeks into my routine and my skin looks noticeably different. It’s brighter, smoother and most definitely dewy. Makeup glides on smoothly and my face looks radiant under it. Now you may think that these words appear to have been taken straight out of a beauty advert. Not so. I assure you they’re all mine. When it comes to skincare I’m brand-loyal and it takes a great deal to change my mind. I’m loving the Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 range. I’m now a convert.
