Three European Destinations You Need To Visit This Summer

Summer is here and it’s time to plan your getaway. Here are three European destinations you need to visit this summer…

Summer is almost here, despite the UK weather not quite reaching the high temperatures we’d hope for. With that in mind, it’s probably the perfect opportunity to book an exotic escape to a sunnier destination. What’s more, it gives you the perfect chance to show off your new SS19 menswear pieces, whether you’re hitting the beach or jetting off for a city break. So, if you haven’t booked your summer holiday yet, here is some European destinations to get you started!

Why visit Croatia?

Game of Thrones CroatiaCroatia is a country at a crossroads, situated between Central and Southeast Europe, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Its island-speckled coastline is remarkable, with a rich cultural history that includes Napoleonic forts, Roman ruins and early Slavic churches. Croatia is home to a multitude of destinations within one country, from the summer resort island Hvar to the Krka National Park. Dubrovnik, which became particularly famous thanks to the filming of Game of Thrones, remains a historic city with a distinctive Old Town. For these reasons, visiting Croatia can offer you various experiences in one trip; from sight-seeing to relaxing, and even a great party or two. There are many different festivals that take place in Croatia throughout the summer and even into the autumn season. Whether you’re a swimmer, hiker, sailor or simply just an observer, you can’t go wrong with a holiday to Croatia.

Discovering Malta

Top European destinations to visitMalta is a largely undiscovered archipelago, despite its capital Valletta being named the European Capital of Culture for 2018. It may be a small country, but it packs a lot in. Malta’s landscape is made up of stretches of coastline, limestone cliffs, hidden coves and historical structures. Malta feels like ancient country combined with contemporary design and architecture, resulting in a mysterious yet fascinating destination. Many of the towns remain beautifully preserved, dating back from the time of the Knights of Malta. Malta’s sister island, Gozo, is not to be missed on a trip to this Mediterranean destination. Providing a tranquil break, its highlights include local fresh produce and megalithic temples, with a much more laidback feel than mainland Malta.

Holidaying in Sicily

Sicily top european destinationsThe largest Mediterranean island, Sicily can be found just off the toe of Italy’s boot. It is an ancient place, with poets including Homer, Virgil and Odyssey amongst its tourists. Home to Mount Etna, Sicily boasts a number of diverse architectural and historical gems including Arab domes, Byzantine mosaics and Norman palaces. Visit the Valley of the Temples, hike around the volcanic island of Stromboli or explore the island’s capital, Palermo. With strong Arabic origins, Palermo is a cultural melting pot and was only unified within the mainland in the 1800s. From street food markets to seaside escapes, it’s a truly unique destination within the country of Italy. Sicilian cuisine is simple, hearty and fresh, with traditional dishes including Pasta alla Norma, caponata, and frittura mista on offer. Sicily was also the original home of one of Italy’s most famous desserts; the cannoli.
