Julien Macdonald SS17 Show Review

Julien Macdonald injected a splash of glitz and glamour to Seymour Leisure Centre as he presented his SS17 collection for London Fashion Week.

The esteemed designer returned to the catwalk with a myriad of super sexy eveningwear, bringing model-of-the-moment Hailey Baldwin to open and close the show in some dazzling tasselled creations.

We headed backstage before Julien Macdonald’s show and spotted many of the models satisfying a sweet-craving with new Nākd Posh Bits either the cocoa and raspberry, the cocoa and sea salt or the cocoa and mandarin treats. As big fans of Nākd we were excited to see them and also enjoyed getting our hands on some – seriously delicious! Whilst backstage we also had the time to see some of the makeup looks being created for the show.

Complexions were dewy and youthful with dashing’s of highlighter and lips were kept understated with a swipe of nude gloss. Eyebrows were still strong and full, showing that is one trend not going anywhere and hair was tousled and effortless, with wet-look beach waves emanating understated beauty.

The show commenced at 2pm with Baldwin creating a statement in a sparkling, silver piece, setting the tone for what was soon to follow.
The pieces were alluring and dramatic, oozing class, creating statements and further displaying Macdonald’s preference for high octane designs. His penchant for intricate beading and sequins were interwoven deftly yet dramatically, each piece with its own tale to tell. Drawing influence from the ballroom and not looking out of place on Strictly, it soon became clear – this is a collection to remember.

Thigh grazing dresses, cut-out designs and a view more risqué pieces were sashayed down the catwalk, emphasis placed on the movement just as much as the look. Smooth, supple and seemingly lighter than air, the fabrics and embellishments swayed fluidly – ideal for dancing and utterly beautiful.

Macondald himself closed the show by walking the catwalk hand in hand with Baldwin, the entourage of models following suit. A real show stopping ending for what is a real show-stopping collection. More details can be found at julienmacdonald.com
