Head into the new season right on style with these top fashion trends to look out for in Spring 2019…
The spring / summer catwalks were full of fresh, flowing fashion for 2019. However, there were some notable trends emerging, which are easy to recreate for your spring wardrobe. Here are some of our suggestions for the top fashion trends to look out for in Spring 2019…
Tie- Dye
This psychedelic 60s favourite has made a huge comeback, and featured on everything at Paris fashion week – from mini skirts and sharp jackets, to flowing dresses and denim. If you’re feeling brave, attempt to have a go at tie-dying your clothes yourself, or alternatively, start shopping the look on the high street.
Bows (the bigger the better)
The fashion shows were also full of bows – on skirts, collars, hair-pieces and shoes. Most were large, full and designed to be show-stoppers. If you’d prefer something more muted, look for clothing that features small bows on the sleeves, or a pussy-bow around the neck.
Red, red, red
Red looks like the big colour for the forthcoming season. We’re talking everything from pillar-box bright through to sumptuous claret. If an all-over red look seems like too much, go for an eye-popping burst of red instead; for example, a floppy red sun-hat, patent red shoes or a handbag.
Shorts (but not too short)
Cycling shorts have been creeping back into fashion for a while now; but these are quite ‘distinctive’ and perhaps not for everyone. Slacks-style shorts provide a more casual look, or jeans-shorts with a smart belt. The length isn’t too short; think just above the knee, or mid-thigh. Shorts match well with long cardigans and army-style boots.
The masculine style
More gender-neutral style is gracing the catwalks, and it’s a great look to embrace in your own wardrobe. Eighties shoulder-pads provide a hint of macho-cool, and sharp, tailored trousers also add to the look. Don’t be afraid to shop menswear – there are some great lightweight jackets out there that are ideal for females too. Team up the look with a hint of feminine to create beautiful balance – like a bold pink lipstick or a short skirt.
Tailored (but floaty)
The tailored look is still in, but this spring, it’s a looser, baggier vibe and one of the top fashion trends to look out for in Spring 2019. Think tailored wide-leg tweed trousers, or a shirt with a billowing neck-tie. There should be some structure with this look though; perhaps with a sharp collar or sleeve.
Flirty and floral
Floral tea-dresses may be on their way out, but the floaty, ethereal look is still very much in. The idea is to look as dreamy as possible; with voluminous maxi-skirts, puffy-sleeved blouses and full-length dresses. Match the look with fresh, spring-like make-up and a floral scent (Copycat Fragrances have some good options).
Utility / army look
Yes, fashion has gone full-90s once more! Making this a real contender in our top fashion trends to look out for in Spring 2019. Combat trousers are sneakily re-entering the fashion shows, though in a more elegant format; often teamed with sleek heels and a more tailored design. Boiler-suits and anoraks are another easy way to achieve this trend; though again, think ‘high-end’ and not too much like Scary Spice.
Ruched dresses
Last year, it was all about ruffles. This year, designers are playing with ruching instead; gathering fabric to create interesting focal points. This could be in the form of gathered pleating or a more casually put-together look. A word of warning; ruching is quite a ‘busy’ form of design, so if you’re wearing a ruched item, keep your accessories and make-up simple.
The ‘dancer’ look
Be inspired by Fame and start unleashing your inner dancer. This style is all about circle-skirts (mid-calf or knee), leotards, head-scarves and sharp eyeliner. Add a hint of bohemian to it, to prevent people from thinking you’re off to your dance lesson! Think ‘Romany-chic’ meets ‘80s dance queen’.
