Our tips to keep all kinds of hair happy through the year:

Keep hydrated

More water is often the answer to people’s health concerns and if you are dehydrated on the inside it will begin to show on the outside as well. So make sure you drink plenty to keep both your hair and scalp hydrated, and to keep your kidneys and organs functioning well.

Deep conditioning

When you go the hairdressers to get your hair done, doesn’t it feel amazing post-wash? The deep conditioner is the key, which replenishes the moisture in your hair and restores its natural shine. You can buy deep conditioning hair masks from your local beauty store on the high-street or in supermarkets.

Avoid hot showers

It can be very tempting to turn your shower heat up to full blast, but when it comes to your hair this will damage your scalp. Instead, wash it in tepid water.

Regular trims

Try and make time in your busy schedules to fit yourself in for regular hair trims. The more you neglect and put off cutting your hair, the drier your ends will become. You should try having a trim about once every six weeks; this will keep split ends and breakage to a minimum, giving you soft and silky locks.

Supplements

Like water, adding a boost to your nutritional intake can have a number of benefits. Eating healthily can support the immune system, reduce stress and balance the body as a whole. It will also boost the body’s keratin supplies, which should hopefully lead to a growth of healthier, thicker hair.

Static protection

Summer hats and caps on your head can cause your hair to go haywire. Get a frizz control spray and pat it down using tumble dryer sheets. It sounds like a weird idea but it actually works, go ahead and try it!

Keep washing your hair a minimum

It might not be something you’re comfortable with, but try and limit yourself to only washing your hair two or three times a week to prevent it from drying out in the cold weather. This will also minimise the amount of heat styling, which has a more powerful effect in the cold.

Check hair product ingredients

Take a look at the ingredients in your hairspray and other hair products and make sure that they don’t have a high concentration of alcohol – this will dry out your hair and make it look and feel very brittle.

Argan Oil

Argan Oil is a great product to use during those summer months, as it moisturises your hair instantly. Make sure you don’t buy an oil that is too heavy for your hair; ask your stylist to recommend the best one for your hair type.

Hair Transplants

Sometimes, no matter how well you treat your hair and keep it healthy, you may suffer from hair loss. This can be caused by a large number of factors – from hormones and stress to pregnancy and age and can leave you feeling insecure about yourself. For this, hair transplants can work wonders – and they’re a lot less complex than you think. It’s worth booking in for a consultation if this is something which is affecting you.
