A Simple Guide On How To Move From The Country To The City

Date:

Living in a city makes for a very exciting life. It is very easy to find a social scene, there are music venues everywhere and dining options are very diverse. Life is also very convenient. It is easy to walk to work or school and public transportation can get you everywhere quickly.

It’s no wonder so many people leave rural life behind to go to the city. It does take some planning if you are thinking of making the move, however. Life is dramatically different so there are a number of adjustments to make.

In this article, we will give you a simple guide of things to think about before you make a call to a removal company.

move from the country to the city

Think about transportation

How you get around is going to vary widely depending on the city and its infrastructure. Before you move, think about what your neighbourhood is like, what your nearest public transportation option is, and how much you will be walking.

For instance, if you have a big car, but the parking is limited in your neighbourhood, then you need to look into changing vehicles. If you are not very close to public transportation, or you are doing a reverse commute out of the city then you need to find the best cars for city driving for your needs.

In some cities and circumstances, it may not make sense to have a car at all. If you are well served by an underground station, or you will be able to walk to most places it probably makes more sense to go carless. If you are on a budget then this is a good way to save money while living in the city.

Downsize before the move

No matter which city you end up living in, the chances are high that you will have a much smaller living space than what you’re used to. There is going to be limited living space as well as much less storage space. Even if you are lucky to have some basement storage options in your apartment building, it is not likely to be big enough to store all of your belongings.

This is a very good time to downsize and get rid of a lot of things. Take stock of everything that you have and make a priority list. If you are finding things you forgot that you had then these items should be sold or given away.

Make a budget

City living can be quite expensive. Although you are saving money in some ways, you are likely spending more money on housing which takes a big chunk of an income. To get by it makes sense to have a budget.

Start out by calculating your living expenses in terms of housing, transportation, and utilities. Then work out how much you’ll spend on groceries, insurance, and things like clothes. Lastly, add in some extras like eating out, a gym membership, and entertainment.

Work your way through the items that can be eliminated from your spending to stay on budget so living in the city isn’t a struggle.
