The Shangri-La, coupled with its stunning views, luxurious decor and delicious restaurants is one of the most romantic getaway destinations in the capital. Because of this, it is no surprise they are launching a  The Modern Couples Experience in collaboration with the Barbican, London’s World Class arts and learning centre. This pioneering exhibition Modern Couples: Art, Intimacy and the Avant Garde is a new take on modern art history, exploring modern love and mutual influence in intimate relationships across painting, sculpture, photography, design and literature. The experience at the Shard, which is inspired by the exhibition is available for a limited time only –  for the 10th of October 2018 through until the 27th of January 2019.

The Modern Couples Experience commences with a luxury room or suite inside the Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard where you will find a Barbican tote bag containing two tickets to the exhibition and a “love map” detailing a romantic walk from the Hotel to the Barbican. The walk will include a trip through Borough Market, past the Globe Theatre, over Millenium Brighe and past St Paul’s Cathedral – all significant London landmarks which have been the basis for many real life and cinema romantic moments.

You will be lead to the Modern Couples exhibition at the Barbican Centre which is part of their “Art of Change” – a yearlong season that explores the relationship between art, society and politics. The exhibition focuses on intimate relationships in all their forms and also reveals the way in which creative individuals came together, transgressing the constraints of their time, reshaping art, redefining gender stereotypes and forging new ways of living and loving.

Once you have looked round the exhibition, you will head back to the Hotel where you can continue your Modern Couples Experience by sipping on expert, hand-crafted cocktails in GŎNG bar located on level 52. From here you will witness the most breathtaking views of the city, watching the twinkling lights below.

Begin the next morning with a swim in the infinity sky pool before tucking into an English breakfast for two, served in the TĪNG restaurant and lounge.
