Top tips to save money when re-doing your home

Doing up your house is great, but can work out very pricey. Here are our top tips to save money when re-doing your home…

We all love to give areas of our home a rehaul every now and again, but that doesn’t mean you have to shell out thousands of pounds. Here are our top tips to save money when re-doing your home…

to save money when re-doing your homeCheck out charity shops for bargains

Charity shops can be an absolute gold-mine of beautiful things for your home, if you just take the time to sift through. Whether you’re looking for beautiful vases and knick-knacks or pieces of furniture, you’d be surprised at just what you can find. If you’re looking to save money when re-doing your home then be sure to check out these shops as you can find lots of items at a fraction of the cost of something brand new!

Buy bits and pieces ahead of time rather than all in one go

If you know you will be doing your home up in a few months, then why not collect things as you go, rather than leaving it to one big shop when the time comes? This way you can keep an eye out and get things when they are on sale or flash deals and it’s little amounts of money, rather than one large sum. Be sure to store everything somewhere safe and you’ll be grateful for it all when you get to the re-decorating!

Check your household appliances

When re-doing your home, while decorative items are important, you can also save money in the long run by checking on some of the bigger items that keep your house ticking over-  like your boiler. You could find it has suffered from wear and tear and is in need of a fix – (you can find these Vaillant boiler spares from Heating & Plumbing World.) We recommend getting it fixed before it breaks and means a big repair cost! Check on your other household appliances too.

Learn to DIY

DIY can come in handy when it comes to trying to save money when re-doing your home. Whether you want to tile, wallpaper or simply sand down a surface, this can cost a lot if you rely on calling someone in to do it. Look up DIY videos on youtube and find articles online which can help you learn these skills in the long run.

Upcycle

Sometimes you don’t need to totally throw away furniture to do your home up. Take chairs for example, you may love the style, but hate the fabric design. Instead of throwing them away and buying new chairs which could end up very expensive, why not learn to upcycle? Get some fabric at a cheap price from a local fabric shop and learn to upcycle! They’ll be as good as new, and something you’ll forever be proud of!
