Hotel Ideas Near Leicester Square: Where to Stay when Visiting Central London

Tucked between Soho and Covent Gardens, Leicester Square is just one of London’s iconic squares lined with things to do. Known for hosting film premieres and seasonal tourist events, Leicester Square also gives visitors easy access to nearby spots like Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. Here are three of the best nearby hotels that’ll put you at or near Leicester Square.

Hotel Indigo London

While it’s one of the younger hotels in the area, the four-star Hotel Indigo at 1 Leicester Square deliberately looks older than it is. Opened in 2018, it purposely leans into its glamourous 1920s art deco style, partly inspired by Leicester Square’s reputation for hosting film premieres. Film memorabilia decorates its rooms, including framed script wall hangings and plush velvet curtains.

Where entertainment is concerned, guests can enjoy its rooftop bar and superfast Wi-Fi across the whole premises. For those who enjoy a trip to the casino, the hotel also sits beside the famous Empire Casino – you could practice roulette online for real money prior visiting some of the West End’s famous casinos! Otherwise, you can venture across the square to find the famous Odeon Luxe venue where British red-carpet events are often held. Beside that is the Moon Under Water, a Wetherspoons spot named after George Orwell’s ideal fictional pub.

All rooms at the Indigo are equipped with air conditioning, smart TVs, and en suites complete with rainfall showers. When it comes time to eat, you can find one of the many restaurants around the square or try the rooftop bar – it serves international cuisine that should have everyone covered.

The Londoner

Sitting at the opposite corner of Leicester Square, the Londoner is the best hotel for those who have a five-star stay in mind. Claiming to be the ‘world’s first super boutique hotel,’ The Londoner is designed to deliver that smaller, trendy boutique hotel experience in a much larger package. It spans 350 rooms with multiple eateries and bars housed within its walls, including another rooftop lounge.

The Londoner also has dedicated facilities like ballrooms for event hosting, with capacity for up to 850 guests. Assuming your group is a little smaller than that, they also have an urban wellness retreat including a gym, spa and pool. Its restaurants serve English, French Mediterranean and Japanese izakaya cuisine.

Assembly Covent Garden

Hotel Indigo and The Londoner have the square covered, so if you’d rather be close to the square but out of the limelight, then you should consider the three-star Assembly Covent Garden at Charing Cross Road. It’s located just behind the Odeon Luxe venue, so it’s faced away from the square itself but a short walk away. The road outside will also take you directly to Trafalgar Square to the south.

This hotel boasts 139 en-suite bedrooms, with option for windowed or windowless rooms. Those rooms have air conditioning, soundproofing, Wi-Fi and sleep two people per room, plus larger suites available for parties of three. Then there’s the Garden Room, the Assembly’s rooftop bar and restaurant with botanical decorations. It serves what it calls a pre-theatre menu, a two or three course meal made up of fancy but convenient dishes that are easy to tackle before going to see a film.
