We review Lab Tonica, the company bringing herbalism to the 21st century…
Lab Tonica is bringing herbalism to the 21st century. Founder Kitty McEntee, who’s great grandmother Louisa could heal any ailment with nothing more than plants in her garden, is the inspiration behind the concept. The only difference is that Kitty combines 15 years’ advertising experience with the ancient practice.
We have ignored the healing benefits of plants, flowers and leaves for far too long. My own grandmother would boil coriander seeds and make me drink the water as a cure for the common cold. It always worked a treat. It’s wonderful to now see natural remedies receive more mainstream attention.
The Lab Tonica range consists of luxury tea, aromatherapy balms and pillow mists. Each collection has been carefully curated by Kitty, who studied herbal medicine. There is a collection to aid sleep, immunity, libido, energy or calm. And it doesn’t stop there. All Lab Tonica packaging is recyclable and even the plastic inside is made of plants.
I became a fan after trying the Breathe Tea + Balm set during a particularly stressful few weeks, when I had to lock myself away to write a particularly large assignment. The balm which contains sandalwood, bergamot, sweet orange, chamomile and lavender really does smell as wonderful as it sounds. You simply massage a small amount to pressure points and inhale and exhale naturally. I applied the balm as directed and worked through the day. Whilst the aroma never overpowered me, it filled the room creating a peaceful atmosphere which allowed me to work long hours.
Similarly, the Breathe tea made of lemon balm, linden blossom, peppermint and fennel proved to be a magnificent replacement for coffee. For instead of filling me with caffein, the Lab Tonica Breathe Tea aided the balm, allowing me to avoid the highs and lows associated with caffeine. It tasted light, warm and wholesome allowing for a far better night of sleep than if I’d drunk coffee throughout the day.
As a fan of treading lightly in life, I am super keen to try the rest of the range. I have no doubt they will be just as gentle and kind to my mind and body.
