Cocos Hotel Antigua – Review

Cocos Hotel – A real Caribbean Paradise

Antigua has long been a romantic vacation destination of choice and if you are looking for a rejuvenating stay on the idyllic island, look no further than Cocos Hotel.

Cocos Hotel Antigua

Situated right on an ocean bluff and overlooking the sparkling Caribbean waters, Cocos is a collection of 30 boutique Cottages, each one offering a tranquil respite from city life.

As soon as we arrived at Cocos we were made to feel welcome- the staff in particular made it clear nothing was too much trouble.
As we were shown to our cottage we walked past a wedding – something Cocos is ideal for. With its picturesque and panoramic views, what better way to spend your big day?

Once we had settled in with our bags, we were able to truly take in the views this outstanding Hotel has to offer for they really are something else. Soft white sand lends itself to sparkling blue waters as far as the eye can see. The room itself was beautiful- large in size and full of little romantic touches such as a flower petals scattered on the bed, it cemented itself further as an ideal couples retreat. Our private balcony was the ideal spot for a late-afternoon drink and to watch the sunset. It all felt very special.

The bed itself was four-poster and wonderfully comfortable. The showers for the room were outside – something I learnt are popular in resorts on the island, and truly lend themself to the caribbean experience. There was no TV in the room, but why would you come to Antigua to sit inside and watch television?Cocos Hotel AntiguaCocos Hotel Antigua

The Hotel grounds were all impeccably kept and blooming with bright colours, although we had quite a walk up a hill to get to our room, these made it a lot more pleasurable!

Down on the beach is the beach bar, open from 10 until 6 and an ideal snack-stop whilst sunbathing and swimming on the beach. Providing everything from tasty cocktails and smoothing to daytime snacks at a waiter or bar service, they ensured we were well looked after. And if you’re in the mood for a BBQ, there is one on the beach served from 4-5, a nice added touch. Being right on the beach, it’s an ideal spot to lie on the comfortable loungers, swim, snorkle and just relax, the soft sounds of the sea and the smell of the BBQ in the background.

Dinner at Cocos is served in their multi-tiered open restaurant nestled in the cliff and with the views its so well know for. Tranquil yet intimate, it offers a contemporary mix of international cuisine with a strong, local influence, a lot of the produce sourced from nearby farmers and fishermen. Acoustic, live music was an ideal accompaniment for the meal and truly added to the atmosphere. I enjoyed a bean salad to start, followed by roast hen and then a pecan pie for dessert. It was delicious and real testament to the chef. The service was good and our waitress lovely.

After dinner I would recommend you (as we did) head to the Hotel bar. There is plenty of comfortable seating and a vibrant atmosphere, ideal for an after-dinner cocktail whilst watching the sun set over the sea.

I would highly recommend Cocos Hotel for a romantic getaway with your other half that you’ll never forget.
