The Amari Watergate Bangkok Review – An escape from the madness

Date:

Bangkok is an incredible place, full of culture and life and tuk tuks, but as you can imagine, its very hot, very sweaty and can feel like it’s hard to escape the madness. Amari hotel group allow for exactly that.

With different hotels scattered throughout the city they offer a happy haven to wind down in. We stayed at the Amari Watergate, and couldn’t have asked for anywhere better.

We were due to arrive at the hotel early evening to experience the world class Thai on 4 restaurant, one of the hotels six dining choices. This smart casual restaurant is renowned for its Royal Thai Cuisine.. Unfortunately due to a very delayed flight, we ended up checking into the hotel after midnight, after a very welcoming receptionist ensured everything in the room was prepared for us he had our bags taken up to the 34th floor. Upset that we had missed reservations at the restaurant and the infamous Sky Bar for cocktails we weren’t the happiest of travellers and decided to make a beeline for bed, however once we walked into our room at the Amari Watergate, happiness was restored.

The Room

We had an executive club room which was incredibly spacious. After popping our bags down we noticed a beautiful bunch of red roses on the bed and a note, the card wished us a Happy Valentines day and a wonderful stay at The Amari Watergate signed off from Roger, sadly despite asking at reception and several members of staff at the hotel, we never found out who Roger was! Roger whoever you are, thank you.

The room has a more than ample size working area, if the need to work is required (although we wouldn’t recommend working in Bangkok, there’s too much fun stuff to do!) Two beautifully made beds had some interesting artwork above them. The room overall has an executive feel to it, with Thai touches that ensure relaxation and ultimate comfort.

The bathroom was great, with one of the walls being a sliding door that opened up into the bedroom. We can only imagine this is to relax in the bath after a busy day and take in the absolutely spectacular view from the room.

After seeing the city lit up at night and the sunrise the next day, we were no longer let down about missing the views from Sky Bar. What the room offered was incredible, and lured you into the city to explore.

There is a very powerful stand alone shower and a large sink area with complimentary water and toiletries and marble finishings to ensure a high end experience in every way.

Breakfast

When staying in an Executive Club room, you have access to the Executive Lounge for breakfast, again with a view to behold, you wouldn’t opt to eat breakfast anywhere else. We requested a table by the window and our wishes were granted. The room was very large with a pretty staircase and glass chandelier style lighting, floral touches scattered throughout.

We were spoilt for choice at this buffet breakfast with a range of fresh artisan breads, a wide range of cereal, a choice of freshly cooked eggs which you wait for whilst they cook it in front of you, smiling and ensuring the service you are receiving is exceptional to no end.

There is a small outdoors balcony area adjoined to the tidily decorated room, which unfortunately wasn’t open when we were having breakfast but it would be a great place to enjoy a cocktail or two.

The Pool Area
We were gutted that we had cloudy weather during our pool time at the Amari Watergate, because the inviting loungers would have made for a relaxing afternoon around the pristine modern pool and lawns. So we spent a while at the pool bar enjoying a Singha before exploring the city. The staff were incredibly busy setting up beautiful canopy dining areas for a valentines meal at the hotel that evening, before we could admire the finished piece it started to thunderstorm so we head back indoors. When we return to Bangkok, hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy the pool in all its glory – it really is a beautiful area that gives you tranquillity in the middle of mayhem.

The hotel is conveniently located walking distance from the city centre, so after an unscheduled shopping trip we sadly checked out and made our way to the airport. The wcheck out process was made as easy as possible for us – We were ensured a cab would be waiting at the door to take us to the airport at the requested time, and they happily helped us haul our bags into the taxi and wished us a safe journey home.
