Tip 1: Not everyone has space for a separate study and lounge area, so why not easily and simply combine a living room with a study and keep it feeling contemporary, classy and still practical? Try and stick to a consistent color theme and ensure people know they can’t barge into the room all day when you are working.

Tip 2: Surround yourself with “productive clutter.” It’s fine to have things on your desk that make you smile, but if they’re taking up unnecessary space, simply get rid or move them to another part of the house. You need to invest in things that will make your space easier to use – pin boards, chalk board, pen pots and notebooks are all things you can buy that look good but are useful too!

Tip 3: Give yourself plenty of storage – the last thing you want is to be left with lots of bits and bobs and paperwork everywhere! You can invest in some pretty drawers and desk trays which are inexpensive and look great too.

Tip 4: Stick to a consistent colour scheme. Unless you’re looking for something super bright and funky, stick to a light, pastel colour scheme. This helps keep your mind calm and makes the space appear brighter and less cluttered.

Tip 5: Find a space which works for you. You need to make sure it is somewhere that you can work and feel productive and somewhere you don’t mind spending lots of time. Invest in a good quality chair – after all you’ll be sat there a long time! And make sure your desk is big enough for your needs.
