Cities worth cruising for…

Gazing out from the deck of a cruise ship is one of the best ways to see the world – just ask the millions of cruisers departing from ports in the UK every year. Many itineraries pack in a vast selection of destinations and chances to port in some of the most beautiful cities that the world has to offer. Here are just a few worth checking out…

Itineraries that take in the Mediterranean are some of the most popular, and for very good reason. There’s an abundance of breath-taking towns and cities to explore here, including the jewel in Croatia’s crown – Dubrovnik. Terracotta roofs and baroque churches fill the old town, which just so happens to rest closely to the shoreline and gives cruisers an awe-inspiring view as they pass by on the water.

Vancouver, Canada

If you’re after a varied itinerary that keeps you on your toes, it doesn’t get much more diverse than Vancouver. Vast expanses of forest, mountain scenery and glistening bodies of water make up the landscape of this majestic Canadian city. Depending on what time of year you visit, port excursions range from rushing down snow-capped ski slopes to sunning yourself on beaches backed by rugged, mountainous backdrops.

Casablanca, Morocco

Casablanca

The largest city in Morocco, Casablanca is home to an African cruise port with a difference. The city boasts any number of recognisable landmarks, from the picturesque Royal Palace to the abundance of Art Deco buildings that make up the city centre. Even before you hit land, you’ll be greeted by sublime views of the Hassan II mosque as you sail into port.

Barcelona, Spain

The bustling city of Barcelona is a sight to behold on board a cruise ship, packed with vibrant colours and bathed in the Spanish sunshine for a good proportion of the year. Some of the finest cruise lines in the world sail here, while gazing out across the city from the top deck of a luxury cruise ship makes the experience all the more spectacular.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

South America is home to some of the most beautiful cruise ports in the world, and the stunning city of Rio de Janeiro is no exception. Cruisers are able to take in the mesmerising Copacabana Beach, complete with striking blue waters surrounding it. The famous statue of Christ the Redeemer is visible from a cruise ship, while views across Sugarloaf Mountain make for a truly memorable journey.

Helsinki, Finland

Very few European skylines are as spectacular as that of Helsinki – or as underrated. 1. We’ve been to Barcelona a couple of times, which was amazing, but haven’t yet travelled to the other places. These will definitely be on our list. Great post.
