Romantic, whimsical and decorative, DAKS SS16 collection is a step back in time…
DAKS SS16 London Fashion Week show took place in Lindley Hall, a much quieter and more serene area of London than the hustle and bustle of Soho- London Fashion Week’s new home. The venue represented the beauty and historical element of the new collection, which took a step back in time to the art deco era of the 1920s and 1930s.
Playing homage to the period with rich prints and feminine graphic elements, it is striking, elegant and beautiful.
DAKS collection heavily featured a ‘Deco’ print which became the shows leitmotif, offering it in both black and black on chiffon, georgette and cotton, as well as in vivid colours and on micro-patterns. This iconography extended from the garments to the staging, interweaving in every aspect of the show and truly encapsulating its spectators.
Rich patterns and prints are evident through the whole collection, with not only the ‘Deco’ print, but also a print of superimposed leaves and flowers. These fit in with the collections five central colour tones of black, white, grey, green and a key rust tone that is more evident in the suede garments- (our favourite of which was a spectacular suede jacket.)
Accessories include bags in this key rust tone, again encompassing the Art Deco theme. This colour was a true standout, creating a very vast pop of colour from the monotone shades of the collection.
Sandals take inspiration from the classic English men’s shoe, though are presented as extremely feminine, adding a twist to the usual design. Infact this engagement with dichotomy between masculinity and feminism in fashion is something that has been part of the brand since its conception.
DAKS is known worldwide for its love of British luxury, tailoring and ready-to-wear professional attire and each season only produces something even better than the last.
Spring Summer is certainly a collection by DAKS to look forward to.
