It appears many of us have ‘all the gear and no idea’ as a recent survey by SmileDirectClub revealed that, on average, British women own 15 items of make-up but only use 3 make-up items on a daily basis! Celebrity makeup artist Pauline Briscoe offers her top make-up hacks to get us making the most of what we already own.
The survey also found that 26% said that they cost-of-living crisis had made them reduce the number of products they wear. 17% said it had also made them move onto cheaper brands.
With the rising cost of living, we are all looking for ways to save. Pauline Briscoe, part of SmileDirectClub’s Confidence Council which aims to boosts the nation’s confidence levels,offers her advice to waste less and do more with your make-up.
Tip 1: Use lipstick as a blush or cream eyeshadow, this is a great way to use a lipstick as a multifunctional product and make the most of your make-up! You only need to use a small amount, always start off subtle and build up to your preferred shade.
Tip 2: If you have any broken eyeshadows or powder blushers mix it with a bit of petroleum jelly to make a lip gloss. This is a great 2 for the price of 1 tip and will make your smile pop!
Tip 3: When you’re nearing the end of your tube foundation cut tube near the button and use the residue foundation that is normally left inside. Pot the remainder. If it’s a glass foundation bottle heat the glass in a very warm bowl of water to let it melt from the sides.
Tip 4: Mix moisturiser & concealer together or remainders of foundation with moisturiser to make a tinted moisturiser or BB cream.
Tip 5: To make lipstick last longer on your lips so as not to keep reapplying, blot your lips with tissue after application then set with a bit of translucent powder. This is a great staying power tip!
Tip 6: Add a few drops of saline water or eyedrops to a dried-up mascara to revive it. Use old clean mascara wands to brush brows up or separately lashes. Mascara can also double up as a gel eyeliner. Use a thin brush and dip into the mascara cream to create an eyeliner look.
