Things to do in London for Under a Tenner

One thing that no one could ever accuse London of being is cheap. In the past couple of decades the cost of living within England’s capital city has risen steeply and made it one of the most expensive places in the world.

Despite that, it still attracts people from all over the globe and that is due to its range of things to do. From pubs and clubs to live music and sporting events, London has everything – even if it is not always affordable to all.

Fortunately there are still some more cost-effective entertainment choices in the capital though. They are what we will be focusing on in this article.

Cable Car Ride

The Thames is one of London’s many iconic sights and one of the best ways to see it is by taking a cable car. The amusingly named Dangleway allows tourists and residents to soak up aerial views of the river and of East London, making for an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours.

It costs just £10 for a return ticket, or £5 if you are happy to make your own way back afterwards.

The Globe Theatre

London is a theatrical centre and perhaps the jewel in its crown is the Globe Theatre, which can be found on its south bank. This is the home of Shakespeare and somewhere that no admirer of English culture should miss out on a visit to.

What makes the Globe even more remarkable is just how affordable to everyday people it can be. Whereas other London theatres are expensive, standing room tickets here can frequently be picked up for less than £10.

Doing so will let you watch Shakespeare’s work in the way that most people would have done so in the past too.

Free Inside Activities

Another thing that London is noted for is its often less than lovely weather. That makes a cheap form of entertainment that you can enjoy indoors a must for anyone considering a stay in the city. Head to one of the free museums or art galleries such as the Tate Modern. You could also consider a casino – why not practice online first, many have £10 minimum deposits you can use.

The Clink Prison Museum

London has a long and fascinating criminal history and the best place to learn about it is the Clink Prison Museum. Located on Clink Street, it offers interactive exhibits going back to Medieval times, but be warned – it is grisly stuff and not for the fainthearted!

It is also another capital experience that can be enjoyed for under £10. Tickets for adults are priced at £8.50, while for children they are £6.60; so perfect for budget family fun.

Brick Lane Bagel Shops

Brick Lane in East London is one of the most popular spots for food fans and is a great place to try delicious treats at low prices. It is home to competing bagel outlets and there is a fierce debate and rivalry over which provides the tastiest eating.

The choice is between Beigel Shop, which first opened in 1855, and the young upstart Beigel Bake. Each offers its salt beef-based delicacies for less than a tenner, so you can try both if you are in town for a while and decide which you like the best.

The Chocolate Cocktail Club

You may be surprised to learn that top capital nightlife is available to you for a mere £10, but that is the truth. The Chocolate Cocktail Club is a popular weeknight haunt of Londoners and is situated in Farringdon.

It offers a range of cocktail drinks, including some really unique blends, and you can get in for the night for just £9. That price will also pay for a first drink of your choosing to get the evening off to a swinging start.

This club is still a fairly well kept secret, but it is one of the best affordable London options, so it is not likely to stay that way. Get in while it is still under the radar.

There is enough to do in London for less than a tenner to keep anyone happy.
