Nubie inspires the ideal place for you and your baby

When planning a nursery space, it can sometimes be tricky to create the right mix of practicality and aesthetic appeal. Online children’s boutique Nubie believes that when decorating a baby’s room for the first time, parents should not have to compromise on style.
Sourcing the most design-led and covetable products from around the world, Nubie’s contemporary collection of nursery furniture and baby accessories offer an array of modern designs, from nursing chairs and changing tables to cots and design-savvy homewares to suit any mother’s style.

Here is a collection of some of our favourites from Nubie’s range to help inspire you to create your ideal space to care for your baby.

The Crib

The first item on any expectant parent’s list, a crib can often prove to be the most expensive purchase. Designs with adjustable height settings enable getting baby in and out much easier, and for a crib with longevity, opt for styles that come with a toddler conversion kit such as the Curved Cotbed from Oliver Furniture or the Sparrow design from Oeuf NYC. This means that your money will be well spent and can cater for your child up to school age.

NUBIE TIP: Ensure that the cot is positioned near a plug socket so that you can use a baby monitor and night-light.

 Nursing Chair

New parents will spend a lot of time nursing and rocking baby to sleep, so a comfortable and supportive chair is essential. Nubie has a beautiful range of nursing chairs from furniture brand Olli Ella that will not only provide superior comfort but also complement any décor scheme. Hand-made in Britain, the Da-da and Mo-ma designs come in a wide range of colours and are also fully customisable. And when baby outgrows the nursing stage, the stylish designs will happily make the move to grown up living spaces.

NUBIE TIP: A side table or ottoman placed next to the chair is a good idea so that your essentials are close to hand.

The Changing Table

Whilst having a place to change baby is imperative, new parents should not feel the need to buy a designated change table as they often become obsolete quite quickly. The best solution is to find a dresser that comes with a removable changing pad on top. When baby is grown, the pad can be removed and you’re left with a smart and practical storage unit. The Merlin Dresser from Oeuf NYC offers great scope for storage and has a removable changing table that fits perfectly on top.

NUBIE TIP: If you are tight on space, opt for Oeuf’s over-cot changer instead of a freestanding unit.

Storage Solutions

Go big on storage – you can never have enough, and these pieces will often take children from newborn through to toddler and beyond. In the early months, babies will not require much storage, so opt for shelving units and drawers placed near to the changing area so that nappies and cream are easily on hand. Nubie have a fantastic range of storage options, from wardrobes and chest of drawers to fun storage totes and baskets.

NUBIE TIP: A handy caddy in which you can carry nappies, creams and other bits around the house is much easier than having a fixed place in the nursery.

Decor

Babies and toddlers respond well to visual stimuli, so place décor near to the cot so that it’s in their sightline. For babies this will bring comfort in recognition of their environment and a little distraction when they first wake. For toddlers it can be a great medium for bedtime stories and interactive play.

NUBIE TIP: Wall stickers are an easy and effective way to add colour and decoration to nurseries, and most are now removable so you’re not stuck with one design for years.

Soft Surfaces

Creating a comfortable and tactile nursery environment is important, not only for baby’s safety but also for mum and dad’s comfort too. Nubie offer a beautiful collection of soft furnishings, bedding and floor coverings to transform nurseries into a haven of snuggly softness. From bumpers, blankets and bedding sets to decorative cushions, mattresses and rugs, there is a style to suit any nursery scheme.

NUBIE TIP: A soft, washable rug on the floor is perfect for changing a baby. You can then turn them over for some tummy time when they start to crawl.
