The long-awaited P&O Cruises Iona maiden voyage is set to be celebrated in the most spectacular fashion, with fireworks and festivities that are not to be missed…
P&O Cruises Iona is one of the most awaited ships launches and since its delayed maiden voyage due to the pandemic, it is set to make up for lost time when it finally hosts its first passengers. A spectacular kaleidoscopic firework display from the ship’s namesake island is planned and it is set to be the pinnacle of a host of dazzling entertainment. Find out more about the Iona maiden voyage below…
P&O Cruises Iona maiden voyage sets sail from Southampton on the 7th of August 2021, sailing past Cornwall before anchoring at Iona for the firework display. Entertainment on board the seven night cruise will include Tony Hadley, known for numerous chart-topping singles and successful albums the world over, including international number one ‘True’ as well as ‘Gold’ and ‘Through the Barricades’.
This will be followed by three days of Scottish scenic cruising, encompassing the Isle of Colonsay, Lochbuie, Duart Castle, Tobermoay, Bac Mòr, Fingal’s Cave, Sound of Jura, Claggain Bay, Mull of Kintyre and Sanda Island.
P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “Iona’s maiden voyage is a momentous milestone for travel. The ship sets a precedent for a new type of holiday packed full of firsts – we have Gary Barlow as music director of The 710 Club, Iona is Britain’s most environmentally-friendly cruise ship powered by liquefied natural gas, and we have the first gin distillery at sea.
“It is apt that the Iona maiden voyage is to the ship’s namesake island which has been the inspiration for many elements on board – the sense of space in the SkyDome through to the heather in our Marabelle gin distilled on board.
“Booking demand is strong so we know how eager our guests are to holiday on Iona. We are immensely proud of this ship and are excited for guests to experience it for themselves.”
Iona is set to be a truly spectacular ship with incredible entertainment, including in the two-deck glass SkyDome. Food masterclasses will be presented by P&O Cruises Food Heroes Marco Pierre White and Olly Smith. They will also run The Chef’s Table, with menus designed by Marco complemented with wine recommendations by Olly, a new concept specially developed for Iona’s celebration nights.
After an inaugural season of UK coastal cruises Iona will offer holidays to Spain and the Canary Islands from September 2021. Fourteen night Iona holidays to Spain and the Canary Islands are available from £1,299 per person.

Hi
I am booked on the cruise for her maiden voyage with my mother and sister ( husband staying home with our kids ) this cruise is important to our family. Its my first ever cruise and what is more fitting than the Iona, our first daughter was stillborn at 41 weeks in 2014 and we named her Iona Erin, after the Isle of Iona. We have always intended on visiting the island as a family and will still do this when our girls are old enough but to be on this ship and sailing to the island I really can’t wait, my baby girl will be with me in spirit and always in my heart on the trip.
3 (three)cruises already booked for my Daughter and myself o IONA. We sail away in Sept; to the canaries for 14 night then again in January for another 14 nts then later in 2022 I will be 92 years old then, hope I make it !!! Nothing like a cruise holiday.
