Wakehurst x National Geographic Kids Magazine Join Forces For A Program Of Fun Experiences

Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanic garden in Sussex, has unveiled a thrilling new partnership with National Geographic Kids magazine, launching a three-year collaboration that promises affordable and memorable family experiences.

This October, children can embark on the Nature Heroes: Seed Seeker adventure, where they’ll step into the shoes of a seed scientist and explore the seed banking process from start to finish.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Millennium Seed Bank, this adventure is the ninth mission in the popular Nature Heroes series, a staple in many families’ holiday plans. The journey begins at a towering two-meter-high walkie-talkie and leads young explorers through a trail of sensory activities—including a cypher wheel, ‘feely boxes,’ periscopes, and fascinating ‘Weird but True’ trivia—bringing the world of seed research to life.

Upon completing the mission, children will earn their first Nature Heroes Academy badge, gaining the knowledge and inspiration to become future conservationists or seed scientists. This event also marks the beginning of a year-long celebration of the Millennium Seed Bank’s 25th anniversary. For 25 years, this world-leading seed bank has safeguarded over 2.4 billion seeds from more than 40,000 species. Through initiatives like Nature Heroes x Nat Geo Kids, Wakehurst invites families to return and engage in the vital work of preserving our planet’s plant biodiversity.

Louise Ioannou, Marketing Director at National Geographic Kids magazine, said, “National Geographic Kids magazine is thrilled to launch our three-year collaboration in the stunning grounds of Wakehurst this autumn. Not only does the fun and educational nature trail bring our much-loved children’s title to life, the Seed Seeker adventure is also designed to inspire a passion for nature and spark curiosity in young explorers – core values of both Nat Geo Kids and the Nature Heroes programme.”
