While we might get older, we don’t necessarily get less messy. Here is the adults guide to keeping your bedroom tidy…
As teens, everything we owned was kept in our bedrooms away from nosey parents and light-fingered siblings. If we’re being honest with ourselves, it was probably an absolute mess that was probably hazardous to our health.
Now that you’re all grown up it’s probably time to ditch those bad habits and have a bedroom an adult would sleep in. Here are a few tips to keeping your bedroom the oasis of calm it should be.
Use it for sleeping
One of the good things about growing up and moving out is that you don’t have to try and fit everything you own into one room. See your bedroom as somewhere you go to relax and sleep.
Get yourself some quality linens…
No more buying the cheapest polyester duvet cover you can find. The ones that give you electric shocks and fade after two washes. Splash out on some good quality bed linens from somewhere like King Of Cotton, that you’d be happy to slip under at the end of a long day.
…And Wash Them
There’s no getting around it, you have to change your sheets regularly. Don’t let them practically get up and walk out the door before you put them in the washer. Change them once a week and use a scent booster and you’ll always have clean smelling sheets.
Keep the clutter away
Keep the bedroom environment as clutter-free as possible. Have a purge of all of your wardrobes and drawers. If you find that you don’t have as much wardrobe space as you’d like, then look at adding a bespoke built in wardrobe to maximise storage. Once you’ve Marie Kondo’d your way through your belongings and reached full wardrobe capacity, store what’s left in decorative storage baskets. You’ll be amazed at how relaxing a clutter-free bedroom can be. Make a habit of putting everything back in its place, as clutter can easily build back up again.
Don’t throw your clothes on the floor at the end of the day, or that chair in the corner that is basically a second wardrobe. At the end of the day, clothes should go in the laundry hamper or be hung back up.
Also, don’t kid yourself that you’ll put that pile of clean washing away tomorrow either. Do it straight away or put it somewhere else. If you don’t it’s going to end up living on your floor before it comes laundry again.
Clean it regularly
Now that you have a clutter-free room, it’s going to be much easier to keep it clean. Dust surfaces and vacuum regularly to reduce the allergens in the room. The better you can breathe, the more restful your sleep will be.
Open the window
A good flow of air through the room is good for your breathing and to air out the room, getting rid of any lingering smells there might be. Sleeping with the window open can also help you sleep better too.
Takeaways
Gone are the days when you can create chaos in your room in the knowledge that your parents would eventually get sick of it and tidy it for you. It’s time to have that clean, grown-up bedroom you deserve.
