Winter is coming, which is why we’ve put together our top tips to heat your home affordably this winter…
Winter is on its way, bringing with it colder temperatures and higher heating bills. While you can always pop another jumper on, sometimes there’s only so many layers you can wear and it’s time to source other ways of keeping your home warm. Here are our top tips to heat your home affordably this winter…
Let the sunlight in during the day
First on our list of how to heat your home affordably this winter is a simple one. Let the sun in! While it can be tempting to shut the curtains to keep in the heat from your radiators, it’s actually better to let as much sunlight in as possible. The heat from the sun is free, so make the most of it! When it gets dark shut your curtains to act as another layer of insulation and keep the warmth in. Make sure you invest in some nice thick curtains for winter, for while these might not seem the most obvious of at home comforts, they will help keep the heat in and look great in your space too!
Clear your radiators
There’s no point your radiators doing all the work of oozing lovely heat into your room if they’re blocked by large pieces of furniture. Move your furniture, curtains or drying clothes away from the radiator to let the hot air circulate freely around the room. You’ll be surprised just how much more heat you will be able to feel. The same goes for placing a shelf above your radiators, these can help to deflect the hot air around the room.
Wrap up warm
We were all told by our Dad’s growing up that instead of popping on the heating to stick another jumper on. It turns out it really is true and a great way to heat your home affordably this winter – as it saves on your heating bill. If you’re chilling at home, who needs to know you’re wearing three jumpers and two pairs of socks? The same also goes for ensuring your hot water tank is insulated. This keeps the water warmer for longer and helps to reduce heating costs.
Block out draughts
Draughts in your doors, windows and floor can quickly turn a warm room into a chilly one and cause you to spend more cranking up the heating. You can easily fix these yourself at very little cost. To sort this and heat your home affordably this winter, simply apply self-adhesive rubber seals around your doors and windows to avoid these. You can place rugs on the floor if you have bare floorboards, and get draught excluders to place against doors.
